American English to Gulu English

While being in Uganda I have realized that quite a few sayings that have become second nature to me might be slightly confusing in these posts. So here is my mini dictionary...


Gulu Term English Translation

branch here turn this way

proceed/continue keep going straight

pass this way turn here/go this way

its not there we are out of that (typical at a restaurant/store)

footing walking

pick you/pick it pick you up, pick it up

I’m going to the what? The... (This is not an actual question!)

looking smart looking good

Are you a born again? Are you a Christian?

Hows the day? How are you today?

Somehow Its ok
